Features & Options
Every component in a Rumen Nation yard is specified for a reason. Here’s what we offer, how we build it, and why it matters.
Our Difference
On-Site Welding — Post & Rail Construction
We weld on-site, not in a factory. Rails fit your actual terrain perfectly, joins are stronger, and there’s no transport damage to pre-fab panels. Tighter, more durable, looks right and works right.
Integrated Roof Using Yard Posts
We design custom roofs that use your existing yard posts as the structure — eliminating the cost of a separate shed frame. A significant cost saving that most contractors don’t offer.
One Designer, One Project Manager — The Same Person
You deal with one person from first conversation to handover. The person who designed your yard manages its construction. No handoffs, no miscommunication.
Structural Components
Posts
80NB (nominal bore) steel posts are our standard — heavy-duty, long-lasting, and appropriate for cattle that push hard. Concreted in to the correct depth for your soil type.
80NB standard (recommended)
65NB for lighter duty applications
Galvanised or primed & painted
Post spacing to suit layout and load
Rails
Oval rail is our standard — it’s proven, cattle-friendly, and site-welded for a clean finish and maximum strength. Rails are cut and fitted on site, not pre-fabbed off site.
Oval rail — standard
Round tube options available
Site welded for strength & fit
Rail height to suit cattle type
Construction Method
Traditional post & rail, site-welded construction. Built the way yards were meant to be built — solid, durable, and fitted to your actual ground rather than a factory template.
On-site welding — no prefab panels
Fits terrain exactly
Stronger connections at every joint
Built for decades, not seasons
Layout & Flow Components
Curved Race
A curved race reduces stress and speeds up throughput. Cattle can’t see the end of the race, which keeps them moving forward calmly.
90° curved race
180° curved race
Solid or see-through sides
Adjustable width options
Force Tub / Forcing Pen
A well-designed forcing pen uses cattle’s natural tendency to circle and follow. Ratchet-style tubs allow one person to move cattle efficiently.
90° ratchet force tub
180° ratchet force tub
225° ratchet force tub
“Needling” curved race options
Holding Pens
Sized and laid out to hold your working mob without overcrowding. Pen count, shape, and gate placement are all designed around your typical working patterns.
Capacity sized to your mob
Multiple pen configurations
Drafting options integrated
Water access considered
Gates & Drafting
Gate placement is as important as gate type. We position gates to work with flow — not against it.
Single & double swing gates
Sliding gates for race access
3-way drafting options
Vet gates & access points
Loading Ramp
A good loading ramp is safe, efficient, and stress-free for cattle and operators alike. We design ramps to match your truck type and the flow of your yard.
B-double & semi configurations
Curved approach options
Anti-slip flooring
Adjustable height available
Crush & Vet Area
The crush is where you spend most of your time working cattle. It needs to be solid, well-positioned, and accessible.
Self-catching head bail options
Side access gates
Vet race layout
Covered crush options
Safety & Operator Access
Walkways & Catwalks
Operator safety depends on being able to move cattle without putting yourself in danger. Elevated walkways give you control without exposure.
Race-side walkways standard
Anti-slip grating
Handrail height to WHS spec
Access steps at key positions
Manways & Escape Routes
Cattle yards are unpredictable. Every design includes planned escape routes and manways so your crew always has a way out.
Manways at regular intervals
Positioned at key risk points
Sized for quick exit
Clearly accessible at all times
Sheeting & Solid Panels
Solid sheeting on race sides and forcing pens reduces visual distractions for cattle and improves flow.
Corrugated iron sheeting
Rubber sheeting options
Partial sheeting — lower rail
Race & force tub sheeting
Roofing & Shade — Rumen Nation Exclusive
